Through this musical journey, you will experience the majesty of noble monuments, grandiose forests, lofty mountains, and spacious cathedrals. Beginning with a rousing fanfare by Jack Stamp, the first half of the concert continues with Salfelder’s Cathedrals, an homage to the brass ensembles for which Gabrieli composed in Italy in the 16th century to be performed from cathedral balconies. Cathedral Grove by Buckley paints a musical landscape of the largest trees in the world, and Boysen’s Klang is a depiction of sounds created by building materials from a majestic concert hall. We end the first half with Wagner’s familiar Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral. <div>  </div> <div> The second half of the concert begins with Camphouse’s La Cathedrale Resiliente, an homage to the rebuilding of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris after the fire of 2019. The Lincoln Imp arranged by Grauer is a fun depiction of the gargoyles that adorn ancient cathedrals, while Colgrass’ Old Churches employs unique sounds that resemble distant church bells. When founders Max and Lucy Mace began this ministry, they never thought they would still be doing this 54 years later. Heritage Singers has had the opportunity to travel to over 80 different countries, travel over two million miles and perform over 7,500 concerts. They champion both new music and timeless repertoire. With a repertoire spanning contemporary compositions and transcriptions of classical masterworks, the quartet seeks to establish the saxophone quartet as a leading voice in 21st century classical music. Reuss, presents "Tetelestai," a concert for the Risen Christ. This program will use modern concert band music to follow Christ's story from Abraham to the crucifixion and beyond. The Southshore Concert Band is an adult band "in residence" at Lake Michigan College. We are excited to bring this special concert to the Howard Performing Arts Center. The spirit of the concert is a celebratory remembrance of those who have gone before us. The audience will enjoy a variety of musical styles, from classic to popular. A highlight of the program will be the performance of a yet unpublished work by world-class composer Rossano Galante. This wonderful new composition for band was commissioned by the Southshore Concert Band and is titled " Images of the Sonrise ." Guest vocalist Jeff Whittaker will also perform with the band.
