The Adventist Youth Music Association (AYMA) is a collaboration among many Adventist universities and colleges to create a space for young musicians to develop their abilities. This year AYMA is looking to host both solo performance adjudication and an elite ensemble music making experiences.

Stage One

High school musicians from across the globe submit video recordings for adjudication and rating by experts. Just like the popular Solo & Ensemble events all over the United States students will get feedback and encouragement to develop their musical skills.

2025 Stage One Dates

  • Registration opens: August 1
  • Registration close: October 30
    • There is a $10 USD registration fee
    • There is no late registration 
  • Solo Video submission deadline: November 9 
    • Video submissions are accepted as soon as registration is completed
       
  • Adjudication release date: November 24

Stage Two

Participants from stage one with high ratings will be invited to join the summer ensemble experience. Stage two will feature another round of auditions through video submission for placement within one of the summer experiences which include choir, orchestra, piano, and wind symphony. Excerpts will be sent to those auditioning and music parts will be emailed to each participant once the placements are decided.

2025 Stage Two Dates

  • Excerpts will be sent via email before: February 1
  • Excerpt Video submission deadline: March 1
    • Video submissions are accepted as soon as the excerpts are received.
  • Summer Ensemble Experience parts sent: April 6

 

Summer Ensemble Experience 

Happening on the campus of Andrews University, July 9-18, with rehearsals and performances in the world class Howard Performing Arts Center, this will be a fantastic week of making music for any serious musician. Large ensembles, masterclasses, and many other activities are planned to not only develop musicality but the body, mind, and spirit as a whole.

Eligibility Requirements

 

  1. All students grade 9-12
  2. Each student must be connected with an Adventist church
    • If attending an Adventist academy the primary sponsoring church of that academy may be listed as the home church.
  3. All types of school settings are accepted i.e. Adventist academy, public high school, home school, etc.

Registration Requirements

  1. Follow this
  2. Pay the $10 solo video submission fee (link at the end of the registration form)
  3. Students who perform with multiple instruments (voice is an instrument) may submit multiple entries. A registration form and submission fee must be completed for each additional entry.
    • Multiple entries could lead to multiple considerations for the summer experience.

Music Video Guidelines

  • Students are at liberty to select their own music but should own a copy of the sheet music or use music in the public domain. 
  • State your full name at the beginning of the video
  • Perform a two-octave scale (singers perform one and a half octave major scale, up and down) of your choosing
  • Perform the selected work
  • The recording must be natural and free of editing and/or processing. Auto-tune is forbidden
  • The entire video must be no more than 10 minutes.
  • Students are encouraged to perform with an accompanist but if that is not possible accompaniment tracks can be used.
    • If accompaniment tracks are used they should be played through speakers and recorded with the performance in a natural acoustic setting not added to the performance recordthrough audio editing later.

Feedback

  • Adjudication and scoring will be based in multiple categories. The rubric that will be used can be seen durring registration
  • Scoring and feedback will be released on November 25, 2025

Yes! Muliple instrument or an instrument and voice registration may be made. Students will need to fill out a separate registration form and pay the submission fee for each entry.
